Breakup playlists for every mood

Press playApple Music, Spotify & Pandora

Music gets past your defenses faster than almost anything. Some nights you need to cry to it; some nights you need to scream every word in the car; some nights you need a beat that reminds you you're going to be completely fine. All of that is allowed.

You don't have to force "happy," either — meeting yourself where you actually are tends to help more than pretending you're over it. So pick the mood you're in right now, and let the next one come when it comes.

Start here — the essentials

When you just want it all in one place.

Cry it out

For when you need to feel it, not fight it. Sad songs are genuinely comforting after a loss — let them do their job.

Rage a little

The drive where you yell the whole chorus. Anger is part of this too, and it's better out than in.

Better off — the comeback

When you're ready to remember who you are without them in the room.

A note on wallowing Sad songs on repeat are cathartic — until they're not. If you notice you're using a playlist to keep the wound open, replaying the same three heartbreak tracks to stay in it, that's your cue to switch to the next mood. Feel it, then let the tempo carry you forward.
